Study of -jet identification in CMS
نویسنده
چکیده
We present the methods for off-line -jet identification developed for the study of decay modes of the neutral SUSY Higgses of mass 140 300 GeV in CMS. Detector response is simulated with a GEANT-based package CMSIM. Involving calorimetry and tracker information, -jet selection criteria allow to reduce the backgrounds to an acceptable level while keeping the selection efficiency at the level of 30%. We investigate the rejection against backgrounds that can be achieved applying in sequence cuts: i) in collimation of electromagnetic energy, ii) in overall ECAL+HCAL isolation and iii) finally, using also the track information by demanding a single hard track with variable threshold in the jet. a) On leave from ITEP, Moscow, Russia

Study of dE/dx Measurements with the CMS Tracker
We report in this note a study of particle identification by pulse height information in the CMS tracker, in the context of isolated tracks as well as tracks inside a hadron jet. We have used the simulation package CMSIM and the tracker layout described in the Technical Design Report. We describe the discrimination efficiency between π and K as well as the electron identification capability of ...
متن کاملon CMS information server CMS NOTE 1998 / 089 The Compact
This note summarizes the results of a study of the identification of theH !WW !`` ` `0 signal for MH 0 = 170 GeV/c. This study is motivated by the papers written by M. Dittmar and H. Dreiner [1][2]. We carried out a similar study using Pythia to generate events and CMSIM calorimeter simulation for the jet veto, and compared with their results. We also show some comparison between Pythia and IS...
متن کاملIdentification of b-quark jets with the CMS experiment
At the Large Hadron Collider, the identification of jets originating from b quarks is important for searches for new physics and for measurements of standard model processes. A variety of algorithms has been developed by CMS to select b-quark jets based on variables such as the impact parameters of charged-particle tracks, the properties of reconstructed decay vertices, and the presence or abse...
متن کاملJet quenching via jet collimation
The strong modifications of dijet properties in heavy ion collisions measured by ATLAS and CMS provide important constraints on the dynamical mechanisms underlying jet quenching. In this work, we show that the transport of soft gluons away from the jet cone — jet collimation — can account for the observed dijet asymmetry with values of q̂ L that lie in the expected order of magnitude. Further, w...
متن کاملAlgorithms for b-Jet Identification at CMS
A comprehensive set of algorithms to identify jets originating from b-quarks has been developed within the CMS Collaboration. The fundamental properties of B-hadrons leading to observables which can be exploited for b-tagging are discussed and an overview of the basic concepts of the algorithms is given, followed by a comparison of their performance.
